Friendship in the Time of New Media
My weekend of leisurely drinking turned into a Sunday of leisurely trying-to-do-schoolwork-with-a-champagne-buzz, which turned into an evening of leisurely reading-fiction-while-drinking-coffee, which turned into an hour of leisurely recording-a-cover-of Tiger Mountain Peasant Song by Fleet Foxes.
Happy Sunday, friends.

Here’s a video from our end-of-semester cabaret at NYU. Its a standalone scene/song from a larger work - just one of the 762 things I must have written last semester… Enjoy!
In the words of my mother, an arbiter of culture and a musical tastemaker, “Avi is just so talented. I really want to— you know, what I want to do? I want to call Ellen and get him on the Ellen show. He’s just so talented, Al.”
Thoughts, in chronological order:

(2) Maybe people will join my book club now.
(3) Yeah… Coketalk would totally join my book club.
(4) She’s a rad bitch.
As Seen Heard on TV: The beautiful and talented Jenny & Tyler.
Actually a pretty accurate depiction of what I imagine the people who were in youth group with me to now look like

Which Thing Did I See At A Thrift Store And NOT Buy?:
Questionable Facepaint Edition
(a) A record of someone performing Al Jolson covers and being generally a little too excited about blackface
(b) A piece of merchandise for the Insane Clown Posse, a musical group
(c) A poster of what I can only imagine is Liza Clownnelli, a performer who portrays Liza Minnelli as a clown
I was clownin’ on a keyboard at home and recorded this onetake of the song “Halo” by my dear friend and personal confidante, Beyonce.
Excuse the sniffles, I was just so emotionally moved by my performance (or maybe it’s that I’m allergic to our dogs. Probably both.) Now I have to go cross off “cover a song by an artist who is literally 100 times more talented that I am using an instrument at which I have sub-proficient skills” from my list of New Year’s Resolutions.
